The first important step will come as no surprise. You guessed it, switching the device on. To do this, press down that power button for five whole seconds. You will then hear a soothing female voice welcoming you to Altec Lansing, indicating that you are on the right track.
The speaker should, at this point, automatically go into pairing mode- if this is the case, then you will see the blue flashing light at the front. If you do not happen to see this light, then this is what you need to do next.
Push and hold down both of the plus and minus buttons simultaneously. The device will make a short beep: thus performing a Bluetooth reset. This will force your speaker to flash that lovely blue light at you, and now you are most definitely in pairing mode.
Now, go to ‘Bluetooth’ on your smartphone device; this should be under ‘Settings.’ Search for Bluetooth devices and go to ‘LifeJacket 3’ to start connecting to your phone. You will know if you have achieved a successful connection because the light will no longer be flashing but solid blue. If that pesky light is still flashing,, then I suggest switching your Bluetooth off and on again on your smartphone and repeating the above steps.
Once you have mastered the art of standard pairing, you are now qualified to try these more advanced pairing techniques. They are slightly more complicated but, I am sure you will agree, infinitely cooler. Don’t worry. You’ve got this.
Pairing your speakers using NFC (Near Field Communication)
Find the location on your speaker marked for contactless pairing. It should be pretty obvious. Hover your smartphone over it, nice and close, as though they might be about to kiss. Switch on the Bluetooth and the speaker. Next, search in your list of Bluetooth devices and select ‘LifeJacket 3’ to start connecting.
Connecting two Altec Lansing Speakers with True Wireless Pairing
You will need to use the above instructions to pair one speaker first. Once one is successfully paired, press that lovely plus and minus buttons for a long second. Depending on the other speaker you wish to pair, you may next have to either simultaneously press down plus and minus or if there is a Bluetooth button, then press that instead. This should push your second speaker into pairing. After a few short seconds, the speakers should pair with one another and be best friends for life.
Bear in mind that these are the only models that will use True Wireless Pairing:
IMW258 – Mini H20 3
IMW269 – Baby Boom
IMW448 – Jacket H20 2
IMW478 – Mini Life Jacket 3
IMW578 – LifeJacket3
IMW579 – BoomJacket2
IMW789 – LifeJacket XL
IMW888 – Super LifeJacket
IMW458 – Omni Jacket Mini
IMW678 – Omni Jacket
IMW778 – Omni Jacket Ultra
If you have another model, then, unfortunately trying this kind of pairing will be fruitless.
Enjoy your new speakers!
